Taking care of animals is just as tough as taking care of a child
full of high and low moments. For example, you try your best to keep your
kids out of trouble, but somehow they just cant seem to stay out of it, the
same way dogs cant stay out of brawl or even worse, attacking people even
after youve taken him to obedience school to mix with other canines and
taught him how to behave, plus a trick or two. As the owner you will always
think that the other dog started it and yours just went along at
the heat of the moment, but soon enough it turns out to be a full of
aggression situation,
causing you to wonder what is the right thing that you should do.
In
order to bring to an end a brawl or to prevent an attack,
you must remember never to yell at them to bring to a close, as they might think of the yelling as
an encouragement to start brawling even harder.
How to stop a dog
fight? Look around you, and if
there is a water hose nearby, try to spray them down, dont panic and aim
the water jet at their legs and feet as they are more responsive to stimuli
on their extremities rather than other places. If all these still couldnt
bring to an end the brawl or attack, try to pull them apart,
but there is a high chance of getting bitten. Do not grab them by the
collars or the scruffs of their necks in the middle of a brawl or they might whip back and snap
at you. It is best to have the other dogs owner to be present at
times like these, so that each owner can grab their pets tail and lift up
their hind legs off the ground as this act will surprise them by throwing
them off their balance, making it easier to pull them apart. However, if you
are at the scene by yourself, then try to take charge of the aggressor by
grabbing his tail and lifting his hind legs and then pulling him away from
the other pet.
Another way to bring to a
standstill clashes or prevent attacks would be to own a
TASER gun and use it when necessary on
dogs. This might sound like an extreme version of control and even a
little sadistic, but the pain suffered from the TASER blast will definitely
be less painful than the normal injuries they can suffer from a serious brawl. Furthermore, no permanent damage can be caused by the use of this TASER
gun on the aggressor.
TASER guns are useful not only to
bring to an end clashes, but also
stop dog attack, quickly and efficiently. It is
estimated that 368,245 persons were treated for dog bite related injuries in
North America for the year 2001, according to the information given by the
National Center for Injury Prevention and Control (CDC). These victims were
mostly 5 to 9 year old children. A blast from the TASER gun will send an
electrical jolt to the attacking pet, knocking them to the ground. There
should be sufficient time to subdue them once they are shocked.
In the year 2003, dog bites accounted for $321.6 million in
claims, as stated by the US based Insurance Information Institute while the
number of dog deaths for 2005 was 13,498,254 as mentioned in a
report by the American Pet Association. The North American Vet Society
quoted that the average cost of medical fees for pets involved in clashes was $137.56 for
each brawl in the year 2002. Therefore, based on the high amount of
fatalities and injuries to both humans and pets it can be said that TASER
gun is a great way to keep both humans and pets safe, besides helping in
lowering the cost of pet medical bills. A case where TASER gun was used for
dog control and to
bring to an end an attack was published in The Times Herald-Record on April 13th
2006 where a Monroe police officer named Greg Witten used a TASER gun to
subdue two aggressive pit bulls on a golf course. The two animals escaped
their Still Road home and went on to menace golfers at the Monroe Country
Club, who tried to defend themselves in return by using golf clubs. By
zapping them two with a TASER gun twice, Witten has managed to force the
animals to
return home.
Although no
pet owner would want to have to TASER their
dog it is however always good to be prepared for the unlikely event
of a brawl because you'll never know what might provoke yours
or another pet into brawling or attacking
someone. TASER guns are relatively cheap and thus if you love your pet then
purchasing a TASER gun would be a wise investment for their safety. To learn
