Mercworx knives are produced a single knife maker that does all of the sculpting, grinding, fitting, and sanding. They are designed as fighting knives for professionals in the field. Mercworx knives are of higher quality and better finished than different knife makers. Mercworx larger tacticals are created of quarter inch thick steel called 154cm, and offering as an upgrade the S30V grade steel produced by Crucible Industries. 154cm steel has earned itself the reputation for being the best steel for hard used tactical knives. Because of the thickness of the blades, even the smallest of the knives will make a large wound. They chose fine sanding over blasting as it makes the knives easier to clean, and less susceptible to the elements.
These knives are quite impressive because of their overall design and craftsmanship. The balance, design and feel of the knives are outstanding. All the large Mercworx knives feature Mercworx's unique upswept thumb ramp on the top of the knives. This way the blade will not cut your palm when you push against an object. The blades have protrusions that keep your hand from sliding foreword. The handle comes with standard black micarta wood that is fixed to the handle, and are made to cope with sub-zero temperatures. The big surface area of the blade makes for much better prying and chopping due to the added weight and strength.
They have a smooth handle because it serves as both a comfortable tool in your hand and provides firm retention during confrontations. Rather than bother choosing one of these qualities, Mercworx spent much time designing a handle that works both ways. Mercworx knives feature the radius thumb stop, to make the knives more usable. The user can hold the Mercworx in the extended saber grip by pushing on the radius thumb stop to align the blade with the centerline of his forearm. The knife will seem to be an extension of your forearm. The flared tip on the blades are designed such to make maximum damage upon penetration. A hollow point bullet works the same way.
