Adirondack Is Back - The Hottest New (Old) Craze In Outdoor Furniture!
It's not a huge surprise that an American classic such as the Adirondack Chair is making a great come back in the last couple of years. This retro trend is spreading fast since folks all around America are taking the opportunity to spend more free time relaxing and kicking back in a carefully designed outdoor living space. I myself remember as a young kid, sinking completely back into one of these old familiar chairs, with my feet hanging just over the edge, while my grandpa and I peeled the apples we had just picked and mused about the yummy apple pie piled with ice cream that we just knew my grandma would have for us after we ate supper. Balancing a cool lemonade on the wide arm rest, the breeze was soft and warm. When Grandpa told his stories it made time fly by. It is really no mystery why we love to relax and unwind outdoors, whether that is out on the patio, out on the porch, on the deck, or in your garden area. What better way to kick back than to sit back in a comfy, high backed, deep seated Adirondack chair and just let your cares go.
So where exactly did this little part of Americana come from? The Adirondack Mountains in upstate New York, of course. This style was customary among the various mountain retreats and vacation resorts that were in demand back then. By the time the 1940's came around you could find Adirondack almost everywhere. The design started spreading south and quickly went west. As the Adirondack style started growing in popularity, and made its way around the country, regional influences began showing up. The design was used in an assortment of outdoor furniture styles which include; benches, rocking chairs, gliders, porch swings, and thanks to our French Canadian neighbors, a conversation piece referred to as the "tete a tete" which means; "head to head". This enchanting design incorporates a couple of chairs with a table in between them built as a single piece. What a perfect way to spend a warm Sunday afternoon with a good friend!
You'll be happy and shocked to find a great collection of Adirondack furniture on the market now. Not only has the original furniture design withstood the winds of time, but the whole Adirondack sensation has exploded with a great collection of colors, finishes, material, and styles. Classic Adirondack furniture is built out of wood that is known to resist insects and deterioration like white or red cedar, oak, cherry, or cypress. The wood chosen will vary by location around the country as do specific furniture designs. A hot new addition to classic Adirondack style is deck or patio furniture constructed from polymer "lumber" that's made from recycled plastic packaging, old milk jugs, and other things. This is not only an environmentally friendly way to invest in your furniture, but you also have advantages with ease of care, durability, longevity, and your colors aren't going to eventually fade as the pigments are mixed through the plastic with UV inhibitors for protection.
